Superfrog is a coming together of sound and energy that leaves an impression on all ears in range. The meeting of these musicians must have been more than just random chance. Based out of the Seacoast Area in Southern New Hampshire and Maine, Three young men and a little lady are blazing new melodic trails wherever they go. With the brand new album Superfrog Sessions (SFS) out, they’re bringing their unique blend of funk jam rock tempered with soaring vocals and entrancing music to the masses.
Nate Proper is the front man and songwriter in this jammage clan. Pounding out super fast slap bass in one song and strumming out complex chords on his six (count ‘em six) string bass in the next, all the while verbalizing over the whole mix. After leaving high school and countless bands behind, he honed his musical skills at the University of Connecticut, only to return to his homeland to reunite with a former drummer for Superfrog.
The Incredible Hulk is real, and his name is Shane Comer, or maybe he’s more like The Flash. Normally mild mannered, relaxed, and intelligent; the blazing beast that lurks beneath is only unleashed upon musical audiences (especially during full moons or after a few brews). Nate and Shane have an already developed musical synergy from being together in Electric Haz?ard a few years back. The pulsing rhythmic heart of the Superfrog tunes took a break in Canada to grab a degree in psychology from Concordia and now he’s back and better than ever.
Out of all the up and coming guitarists out there, not many of them are as unique and talented as Andrew Mendola, guitar guru for Superfrog. Don't let his mere four years of primarily self taught experience fool you, his inventiveness and skill level are both refreshing and mind blowing. If you’re looking for a new perspective on guitar and music, put Andy on your list.
What could possibly improve upon a band with four of the most talented musicians this side of the prime meridian? How about an ungodly hybrid of Janis Joplin, Grace Slick and Jem (of the Holograms). Wendy Crosier's vocal chords have only just embarked on the SF journey. After a single guest singing appearance, the boys knew they couldn't let this one go. Wendy's singing was previously limited to the shower, but now you can catch her raw vociferousness anytime. And, fellas, the siren of Superfrog ain't too hard on the eyes either.
Together, this band truly is more than the sum of its parts, and will pass its infectious energy on to whoever listens. Keep your eyes peeled for these guys in your area because you will not want to miss the Superfrog experience when it comes to your town.
